Bio
Doug Adams was born in Stratford, Ontario. His interest in art was stimulated in his high school years in Stratford by the Saturday morning art classes taught by Robert Ihrig. He graduated from OCA (now OCAD) with Honours in 1995 in the Interdisciplinary Studies program.
He is a Toronto-based artist who has had several solo exhibitions as well as participated in group shows. He works primarily with collage and paint. When preparing to paint he sorts through his collection of papers (rice and watercolour papers that he has painted on previously, machine-made papers and Japanese hand-made papers), or through his boxes of fabric and found objects. On canvas he starts with acrylic washes, introduces collage, then more paint so that the surface is built up and colour and texture is rich and vital. On paper he may introduce pastel and in boxes he may add objects, metal and wire. His aim is to synthesize the variety of media and materials to form a cohesive whole that is visually interesting and exciting.
